01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Mama Lupo's Homemade Ice Cream is a charming ice cream shop nestled in the heart of Bay City, Michigan, at 200 N Henry St. This local gem stands out by focusing on truly homemade, small-batch ice cream crafted with care and generosity in every scoop.

From the moment you walk in (or even when you enjoy their efficient curbside service), you’ll feel welcomed by a friendly team passionate about delivering exceptional frozen treats. Their menu is thoughtfully curated to satisfy any craving, whether you’re after a classic indulgence or something a bit more special.

For scooping aficionados, Mama Lupo’s offers several options: a Single Regular Cone with two generous scoops of your favorite flavor ($4.24), a crispy Single Waffle Cone handmade in-house to hold a big, satisfying portion ($5.19), or a Single Cup if you prefer a cozy scoop at $4.24. The difference here is the evident commitment to quality — each scoop is loaded with rich, creamy ice cream, often packed with real mix-ins like peanut butter ribbons that Tegan Grzegorczyk raved about as the "best peanut butter cup ice cream" she’s ever had. It’s this intense, luscious flavor and hearty portions that keep loyal customers coming back year after year.

For those seeking a nostalgic twist, the Specialty menu shines with old-fashioned Blended Milkshakes, Malts, and coolers for $6.00 — each one artfully crafted to balance creamy texture and refreshing sweetness. The Banana Split options are equally irresistible, whether you prefer the classic boat or the modern standup cup format. Choose two or three flavors and top them with a variety of delicious toppings for a perfectly customizable treat starting at $7.00. Joe Rendon’s glowing recommendation of the 3-scoop banana split reflects the joyful abundance and playful creativity Mama Lupo’s encourages.

If you want to bring the experience home, takeaway options include pint-sized prepackaged ice cream for $5.00 or half gallons at $11.00, both flash-frozen to preserve that fresh, homemade quality. It’s the perfect way to enjoy that luscious, creamy goodness anytime.

What truly elevates Mama Lupo's beyond just delicious ice cream is the palpable sense of community and authenticity. Customer reviews frequently praise not only the outstanding taste but also the warm, personable service. Steve Pudvan’s description of their scoops as "home made slices of heaven" eloquently captures the essence of what this shop represents — honest, handcrafted goodness paired with genuine hospitality.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Bay City, Mama Lupo’s Homemade Ice Cream is an essential stop for anyone craving rich, generous, and irresistibly flavorful ice cream delivered with a smile. It’s a place that feels like a delightful treat for the soul as much as for the taste buds.

Exceptional! I’ve never had better peanut butter cup ice cream in my life. They put a ton of peanut butter ribbons in it and the flavor is excellent! They give you a ton of ice cream, and they’re so friendly. I can appreciate them being cash only as well!! So sad we caught them at the tail end of the summer, but cannot wait to stop here again next year!

Home made slices of heaven in every scoop. By far the best in Bay City. Cream and sugar in uptown comes in 2nd place. Friendly staff and just plain goodness!

I love this place. They have the greatest ice cream in the area. I hate to give it a great review because they will probably be out of my favorite flavors

Family owned ice cream parlor tucked away on Bay Citty's West side featuring house made, hand dipped ice cream. With 25-30 flavors being rotated through, there are plenty of reasons to come back again and again. Ice cream is a bit pricey at4.00/single, it is well worth the price with huge portions and the freshest tasting ice cream I have had in years. We'll worth the cost. Coolers, sundaes, and shakes are also available as well as hand crafted waffle cones

Good selection, friendly service, generous portion, and most importantly great ice cream! We tried Mama's camel hump and Mama's English toffee and they are both very good. Camel hump is vanilla based with peanut butter and cookie dough, highly recommend! There are a few benches inside and tables outside to enjoy the treats.
